Getting Closer to Every Team Finishing With 40 Points

Columbus CrewWith the MLS season underway, and a few perennial winners starting off slowly, it appears MLS is nearing it’s true goal of having every team finish with forty points.

One may ask the question, why make teams as evenly matched as possible, doesn’t that make the league more boring? What these people fail to recognize however is that MLS is only in its thirteenth season, and fanbases are not truly developed. In America, where there are hundreds of other offerings for the “sports dollar” several losing seasons in a row could mean a huge loss of a teams paying customers, particularly since the league is so young and teams haven’t been able to cultivate a loyal fanbase.
